Troubleshooting and support

Work from the visible status, preserve your draft, and recover safely.

Before you begin

Note the location, menu, screen, visible status, and exact action that failed.

What changes

Troubleshooting checks should not publish, overwrite, or disconnect anything unless the step says so explicitly.

Protect current work

When an inline error appears, leave the page open. Venue Menus generally preserves the form and disables duplicate submission while a request is pending. Copy unusually long text before a forced reload.

If another tab changed the same record, reload the saved state, compare it with your intended change, and apply the edit again. Do not dismiss an unsaved-navigation warning unless you mean to discard the draft.

Publishing problems

  • Confirm the selected location and menu.
  • Read Overview’s guest-access status and draft comparison.
  • Compare the version shown on the output with the latest published version.
  • Remember that saving an item, event, translation, or website draft is separate from its Publish action.

Screen problems

  • Use Identify to confirm the physical TV.
  • Check the player’s latest health report, expected menu, version, and offline-ready state.
  • Confirm schedules, priorities, group membership, and temporary overrides.
  • Reload only after the browser is connected. Re-pair if the TV code expired.

The last report cannot tell whether the television itself is powered on or on the correct input.

Import and sync problems

For OCR, use a straight, well-lit image and correct extracted text before building rows. Enable recognition for scanned PDF pages. For Untappd, verify the Business URL and use Refresh now. For Square, verify the external location and reauthorize newly required permissions.

Initial Square sales history arrives in bounded pages and can be visibly partial. Check the last-success status before disconnecting or repeating setup.

Permissions and conflicts

Owners control team roles, locations, billing, branding, keys, and external authorization. Staff may see a workflow without permission to complete its owner-only action. A 403 or disabled control is not fixed by retrying as the same role.

Archive and recovery operations can require screen assignments, schedules, or unsaved edits to be cleared first. Follow the named blocker rather than deleting unrelated work.

Common recovery paths

The web menu changed, but a TV did not
Compare the TV’s assigned menu and version with the web menu. Check active schedules and overrides, then request a reload only if the player is connected.
A Square price is old
Check the connection’s last successful catalog sync. Refresh the catalog, confirm the price in the draft, and publish the reviewed menu version.
A guest link returns unavailable
Check the organization’s guest-access status and confirm that the menu has a published version. Preview access for signed-in staff does not make a menu public.

Contact support

Email hello@venue-menus.com with the location, menu or screen name, approximate time, browser/device, visible status, and exact action. Never send an API key, Square token, card information, or sign-in link.

Limits and boundaries

Health and sync timestamps can lag bounded background work. Screen reports cannot prove a physical TV is powered on.

If something goes wrong

Keep entered values in place, use the page’s retry action, and email support with the affected names and time if the same failure continues.

Still stuck? Email Venue Menus support with the location, menu or screen name and the action you were taking.
